Eric Hosking

The highlight of my journeys was the short time I spent in Nepal which was aided by John and Judy Banks who were friends of Mum and Dad’s in Ceylon who put me in touch with the Tiger Tops crew. And the most amazing coincidence placed me at Tiger Tops at exactly the same time as a group of people from the UK whose Tour Leader was none other than my boyhood hero Eric Hosking. Needless to say I was a bit star struck and could only manage a feeble hello or it might even have been a grunt! But this guy was how it all started for me after I purchased my first photography book “Eric Hosking’s Birds” and it was just incredible to bump into him in such an out of the way location.

John Chillingworth – “It is said that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. After the loss of his left eye, Eric Hosking confirmed that prophetic scenario. The first professional wildlife photographer in Britain, his specialisation in birds, was to bring him world-wide acclaim, but he never sought ‘kingship’, just perfection in his field of photography.”
