I started kicking around with a rugby ball at my Dad’s club the C.H. & F.C. in Colombo, Ceylon before I was even 6 so that when I went to the Hill School in Nuwara Eliya I was immediately thrown in with the big boys playing at the Old Racecourse ground or on one of the pitches at the school.
I disinctly remember being “last man standing” when a huge monster by the name of Ballingall ran straight through me to score a try and I was still doing somersaults in the air after he had passed! I was made of rubber then 🙂
When Jonah Lomu ran through one of the Underwood boys (Rory or Tony? Actually reading this article I now remember it was Mike Catt) when the All Blacks played England once I knew exactly how he felt!
